Great Sand Dunes Oasis has been family-owned since 1985 and sits on Highway 150 just outside Great Sand Dunes National Park, in the high-desert San Luis Valley below the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Its 20 full-hookup pull-through RV sites have dune and mountain views, and the store rents sandboards and sleds for the dunes. Zapata Falls is a short drive south, and the valley's quirkier side – Colorado Gators, the UFO Watchtower and a geothermal swimming pool – is around Mosca and Hooper. Alamosa, about 45 minutes away, is the place for a big grocery run.
