Dogwood Family Campground
Newport, NC
Dogwood is a small campground run by the Parks family in Newport, North Carolina, straight off I-42 at Exit 434. Fifty-two sites, all full hookup, nine of them extra-long pull-throughs and six backing onto a stocked catch-and-release pond. It sits inland from the Crystal Coast, so Fort Macon, the aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and Beaufort's waterfront are all half an hour out while the site rate stays well under beachfront pricing. The campground keeps its lighting deliberately low and publishes its own astrophotography – the dark sky is part of the pitch. It is RV-only and there is no bathhouse, so a rig has to be self-contained.
